Compare the exact model versions and the edits your campaign needs. GPT Image 2 and Nano Banana are candidates for developing and revising brand visuals. Choose using an approved product reference, a defined edit and a check of what changed unintentionally. Neither a model name nor an attractive sample proves that packaging is accurate.

First, resolve the version names
OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Images 2.0 on 21 April 2026. Its API model is GPT Image 2. ChatGPT Images 2.5 followed on 8 September, so “Image 2” is no longer a reliable name for the current ChatGPT experience. In the API, GPT Image 2 has been followed by GPT-Image-2.5 Sunburst and Flare (8 September 2026) (OpenAI API changelog). OpenAI, April release, September release.
“Nano Banana” also needs a version. Here it means Nano Banana 2.1, which Google’s release table dates to 6 October 2026. Nano Banana Pro (API ID gemini-3-pro-image) is a separate model. Record the version used in the approval notes. Google model lifecycle.
Compare the documented controls
This is a comparison of public documentation, not an AI25 image-quality benchmark.
Decision | GPT Image 2 | Nano Banana 2.1 |
Documented image work | Generation and editing; flexible image sizes | Generation and conversational editing |
Reference workflow | High-fidelity image inputs | Multiple reference images |
External information | No equivalent search-grounding feature established by the model page cited here | Web and image search grounding documented |
Production test | Change the scene while retaining the supplied pack | Use the same pack and scene brief; inspect the same details |
Approval evidence | Saved version, inputs, requested edit and final file | The same evidence, including any retrieved reference material |
The feature rows come from the GPT Image 2 model page and Nano Banana 2.1 documentation. The production-test rows are our recommendations.
Run a comparison that answers the brief
Start with a real task: place the approved bottle in an evening interior, leaving its silhouette, cap and label unchanged. Give both candidates the same source assets and intended crop. Compare the outputs with the original pack at the size the audience will see, then zoom in to inspect lettering and edges.
Request one follow-up edit, such as changing the wall colour. Check the bottle again. An image that survives revision is more useful than a strong first result that cannot be corrected without changing the product.
For a Polish campaign, review Polish characters, punctuation and line breaks against approved artwork. For several European markets, retain a separate approved label or copy file for each language. Do not use generated lettering as the master brand asset.
Keep exact product details under control
If a label, barcode or product geometry must be exact, keep that material in a photographed, rendered or composited layer and use generated imagery where variation is acceptable. Our recommendation is to decide this before producing a set of campaign images.

Quick answers
Process, timelines, pricing & deliverables.
Is ChatGPT Image 2 the latest ChatGPT image model?
No. This article uses an earlier baseline. Record the exact model rather than labelling an unspecified ChatGPT output as Image 2.
Which model is best for packaging text?
This research does not establish a winner. Test the exact artwork and preserve approved typography separately when reproduction must be exact.
Does Nano Banana mean Nano Banana Pro?
Not necessarily. Confirm the model in the interface or API. This article compares Nano Banana 2.1; it does not treat Pro and older versions as interchangeable.
Can I compare results from different apps?
Yes, but record each app, model version and setting. Different preprocessing, defaults or editing controls can make the app comparison different from a model comparison.
